The
name of our animated short is Identity. The purpose of the animation is to show
two people from completely different upbringings and backgrounds. The girl
“Lady,” is from a wealthy family and pretty much has it all, and “Guy” has
quite the opposite. The two shed their differences and become friends in the
end. The techniques we used in class were extremely beneficial as we were able
to watch our characters come to life! Creating the animation was difficult at
times but it was worth it in the end!
Together, we thought it would
be interesting to see the lifestyle of the different characters and to really
stress not to judge a book by its cover. We meet all kinds of different people
who live different lives than us. I think its important not to judge a book by
its cover, doing so leads us to miss out on opportunities that could be great
for us. In our film Guy is from a rough neighborhood and doesn’t really have a
family, whereas Lady has a big house and her parents. However, Lady feels
lonely in this big house and yearns for a new friend, Guy. Although different
they both want the same thing.
First
impressions also play into this animation. When we meet people we automatically
come up with a story for the person we met. We have tons of assumptions and its
safe to say that we can generally be wrong about people. That is why we
purposely created the animation so that you see Guy’s house AFTER the two have
already met. It goes to show that you can like a person for who they are and
not what they have, so I think it was clever to place the scene after they talk
and become friends rather having them meet at the bus stop and show them
walking past his house first like we had previously planned on doing!
We created our animation using
classic tween to create the smooth motion you see when the characters walk,
additionally we used a frame by frame animation style on Lady. We used
transition slides that help move the story along and give the audience a little
insight as to what is happening. We added music to the entire thing as well as
created “talking bubbles” to allow our characters to voice their opinions.
Overall we believe our
animation was a success! We put a lot of hard work into it and collaborated our
efforts to create an animation that the class will enjoy! Looking back there
are a couple things we would have done differently. The timing of the entire
short was difficult to workout as we found ourselves creating more time for the
talking parts than we originally did. But, it is good to struggle at time
because it made us learn so much over the past couple weeks. I forced us to get
creative own our own and to really rely on what we learned as a whole!
